a love you thought
true with a life-long obsession
and a life-long
obsession with a series of flings
everything is replaceable,
you just have to figure out
what to replace it
with
when writing you’d
replace rhythm with rhyme
when cooking rosemary
with thyme
the urge to smoke
with pepper cheese
and you’d say one
gets by with things like these
i don’t really care
if i never see you again
and i know you
don’t need me, not that you ever did
everything is replaceable,
you just have to figure out
what to replace it
with
i long since
replaced your letters with books to read
and i run every
evening because it helps with sleep
whisky on the rocks
instead of the long mid-night talks
and i never liked
lonely walks so i got a nice dog to keep
me company and oh
he never complains
you remember the
time
when undying love
we proclaimed
with blades of
grass twisted into rings?
so whatever made
you think
you were
irreplaceable?
you, of all the
things
