we lie alone,
quietly thus
in the same room,
all three of us
me on the bed with
my face
to the wall,
wondering if you’re asleep,
on the floor, and
my cat beneath
the bed on my
dusty cloth suitcase
all breathing
shallow, quietly thus
in the same room,
all three of us
all lying still
for appearances’ sake
all three probably
awake
