lonely on a stone parapet,
on a lonely mountain road;
by my side my only bag,
with my only change of clothes.
my eyes squint, my back
slumped, my matted hair loose;
i survey all the mountain paths,
all mine to choose.
the morning mist unveils it,
driven by a languid breeze;
the valley lies before me,
as far as the eye can see.
lonely on a stone parapet,
on a lonely mountain road;
i look like a footloose vagabond,
like a lowly tramp i’ve bn told.
once on a high terrace,
in a crowded part of town;
i surveyed the mighty city,
all lit up n sleepin sound.
i saw instead, a silken thread,
blowin by me in the breeze;
if the world still had spiders,
there must be hope fr me.
now lonely on a stone parapet,
on a lonely mountain road;
it’s a moment straight out of
a dream, from long long ago.
purple braids n piercings,
my denims worn thin;
my humble wares are memories
from places i’ve bn.
smwhere down the road i found
myself, long after i’d lost the way;
all by myself, n i’ve anyway
run out of things to say.
lonely on a stone parapet,
on a lonely mountain road;
i packed up all the pain there was,
n followed the maniacal crows.
the past’s a distant memory,
now this is all i have;
not sure where i’m headed,
‘m now a wanderin nomad.
it was tough n life was a pain,
but i kept alive the dream;
for in the world there are yet mountains,
n hidden forest streams.
lonely on a stone parapet,
on a lonely mountain road;
it’s stayin put that’ll corrode u,
a wanderer only grows.
